Thinking of using your VA benefits to purchase your new home? Then you will need your VA Certificate of Eligibility. Here is a quick list of what you will need in order to obtain your Certificate.

Veterans, Current or Former National Guard or Reserve Member who has been active Federal active service – DD Form 214 showing a honorable separation from service

Active Duty Service Member – a current signed statement of service.  Signed by the adjutant, personnel office, or commander of the unit or higher headquarters.  This statement must show your full name, social security number, date of birth, entry date on active duty, duration of any time lost, name of the command providing the information

Active National Guard or Reserve member who has never been Federal active service – a current signed statement of service.  Signed by the adjutant, personnel office, or commander of the unit or higher headquarters.  This statement must show your full name, social security number, date of birth, entry date on active duty, duration of any time lost, name of the command providing the information

Discharged member of the National Guard who has never been activated for Federal active service – NGB Form 22, report of separation and record of service for each period of National Guard service .  Or NGN Form 23, retirement points accounting, and proof of an honorable separation

Discharged member of the Selected Reserve who has never been active for Federal active service – copy of your latest annual retirement points statement and proof of an honorable separation

Surviving Spouse in receipt of DIC benefits (Dependency and Indemnity Compensation) – submit VA form 26-1817 and the veteran’s DD214 if available, include both the veteran and surviving spouse’s social security number on the 26-1817 form

Surviving Spouse and are not receiving DIC benfits – VA form 21-534, DD214 if available, marriage license, death certificate or DD Form 1300
